More than 280,000 people are at risk of being affected by moderate flooding in the current rainy season, which ends in March 2022. These are people who live in the districts of Tambara, in the province of Manica, Chemba, Caia, Marromeu, Marínguè and Cheringoma, in Sofala, Mopeia and Morrumbala, in Zambezia, as well as Mutarara, in Tete.
The Zambezi Basin Committee a few days ago, during its XXII Session, urged the population to take precautions to avoid further damage and to be vigilant so that there is no human loss.
"We must maintain permanent vigilance, following the daily information released by the competent entities. In 2019 we had loss of life and property, so we must redouble precaution in this rainy season," appealed Secretary of State in Tete, Elisa Zacarias.
Meanwhile, the director of the Zambezi Basin Management Division at the Regional Water Administration of the Center, Public Institute (ARA Centro, IP), Eurico Saize, assured that the implementation of the contingency plan is underway, which basically consists of pre-positioning the teams, measuring the flow and repairing or maintaining the weather stations.
