Maputo's Central Hospital (HCM), the country's largest health unit, had a quiet New Year's Eve, receiving 290 patients, most of them in the adult emergency department with 143 cases, the gynecology emergency department (25), the maternity ward (29) and the pediatrics emergency department (79), as well as three internal deaths due to general illnesses..

According to the director of the HCM Emergency Department, Dino Lopes, who was speaking at a press conference, the majority of the 290 patients admitted to the HCM are trauma victims.

"We had a cumulative total of 67 trauma victims, of which 14 were falls and 19 were road accidents. We didn't have any cases of collective accidents, all 19 cases were victims of private accidents," said Dino Lopes, in a publication from the AIM.

According to the source, no cases of injury from pyrotechnic objects or collective accidents were recorded, "all 19 cases were victims of private accidents".

With regard to the Blood Bank, the source pointed to the existence of 237 units, a number that he considers to be far beyond what has been usual in previous years.
