The President of the Republic returned the proposal to revise the Electoral Law to the Assembly of the Republic (AR) in order to amend the law that establishes the legal framework for the election of the candidate for President of the Republic and the Members of the AR and the one that establishes the legal framework for the election of the Governor of the Province and members of the provincial assemblies.
Renamo believes that the act of returning the proposal to revise the Electoral Law has obscure political objectives.
"There is a hidden objective, yes. As we know, Nyusi tried for a third term and failed. The possibility exists that he will create confusion so that there will be no elections and he can perpetuate himself in power," said Renamo MP António Muchanga.
He said that in the Frelimo party, of which Nyusi is President, "there is a vein of fraud. That's why they're even fighting each other at their conferences".
"We don't quite understand what the Head of State's doubts are, when the laws he has doubts about have been approved by the great House of the People," he said.
However, the spokesman for the Frelimo parliamentary group, Feliz Sílvia, believes that Nysui's pleas are constitutional.
"The Assembly of the Republic must make an effort to find a definitive solution as soon as possible as to whether or not to enact the law. We're going to do everything we can to ensure that the rule is more refined and can come into force so that we can have elections later this year in the light of this law," he said.
