Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (LAM) has just announced the rescheduling of domestic flights to airports in coastal cities due to weather forecasts for the coming days.
"There will be rescheduling of flights which will affect the schedule previously disclosed" for each flight, and "passengers will be informed of any changes," reads a statement quoted by Lusa.
Yesterday, a LAM flight, which left, this Wednesday, Maputo at 15.30h for Nacala, Nampula province, returned to the origin due to heavy rain accompanied by strong winds.
The crew reportedly noticed along the way that the weather was getting worse, and realized that there were no conditions to perform the landing safely at Nacala airport, according to a note from LAM.
Due to this fact, there will be a rescheduling of flights, which will affect the previously published schedules.
"There were no conditions to perform the landing safely at Nacala Airport," the company explained.
However, weather forecasts predict rain, wind and thunderstorms for the Mozambican coast, especially in the center and north, over the next week.
On the other hand, the National Institute of Meteorology (INAM) remains alert about the evolution of atmospheric depressions east of Madagascar, which could turn into cyclones and approach Mozambique next week as well.
