KARMOL investe 1.5 milhões de meticais na reabilitação do Centro de Pescadores em Nacala

KARMOL recently inaugurated the upgraded Nacala fish center, whose main objective is to guarantee the sustainability and conservation of the region's fishing resources.

Budgeted at 1.5 million meticais, the requalification initiative financed by the company is a response to the challenges faced by local fishermen linked to the deterioration of infrastructures, the lack of suitable materials for preserving fish and for carrying out the activity on the high seas, which had a negative impact on the competitiveness of fish prices.

In fact, the center received four cold rooms, more than 25 fishing nets, signal buoys, hooks, fishing line and ropes, thus benefiting more than 50 fishermen.

According to a World Bank report, fishing is generally an underperforming sector and one of the solutions put forward is to increase the economic contribution of fishing. Since aquaculture is a critical part of the Mozambican economy, it also offers a unique advantage for expanding economic production, fighting poverty in the region and leading to sustainable economic development.

Through the initiative, KARMOL is reinforcing its commitment to the sustainable development of the cities and communities where it operates, with the aim of improving the conditions of human and environmental ecosystems.

The secretary of the Nahenreque Fishermen's Association, Calibo Buananli, thanked to KARMOL for the opportunity them was given in order to overcome os largest challenges that prevented dand work in the best way.

"We hope that, with this opportunity, we can actively contribute to generating income to support several families, as well as employing more young people in fishing and fish marketing, and promoting a culture of management, savings and social security" he said.

"We have closely followed the fishermen's wishes and concerns and have continually sought to contribute to improving their conditions, because we understand the importance of fishing in their lives. The renovation of this center not only meets the needs of this group, but also reaffirms our commitment to the region's great fishing potential" said Cumhur Aksoy, KARMOL's Country Manager.

This action follows on from other social responsibility initiatives that KARMOL has carried out periodically since the beginning of its activity, providing support at various levels to social institutions in the region.
