Angolan Justice tried unsuccessfully to arrest Isabel dos Santos in Dubai

Justiça angolana tentou sem sucesso deter Isabel dos Santos no Dubai

Angola's Attorney General went to Dubai on purpose to try to arrest Isabel dos Santos, the daughter of José Eduardo dos Santos, the former president of Angola, who is wanted by the Angolan authorities and Interpol, and is the target of an international arrest warrant.

However, the attempt proved unsuccessful and the Angolan justice system was unable to arrest Isabel dos Santos. According to Jornal de Negócios, the Angolan PGR and two other prosecutors flew in on a plane provided by the President of Angola, João Lourenço.

They were convinced that the authorities in the United Arab Emirates would cooperate with Angola, but when they arrived in the country, their intentions were thwarted by the police.

According to the newspaper, it was João Lourenço who gave the order to go to Dubai, and indications were given to the Angolan Attorney General, Hélder Pitta Gróz, that the authorities would cooperate, despite the fact that there is no extradition agreement between the country and Angola.

However, the collaboration did not take place and the situation ended up tense and unsuccessful. This is the second time that the Angolan PGR has tried to arrest the businesswoman: a year ago Isabel dos Santos was arrested and heard in court in the Netherlands, following a complaint filed by the PGR, which requested her arrest, subsequent detention and extradition, which was not accepted by the Angolan authorities.

Isabel dos Santos, according to the Angolan justice system, is alleged to have harmed the state to the tune of more than 200 million euros. She is accused of embezzlement, criminal association, money laundering and influence peddling.

After Interpol accepted the arrest warrant produced by Angola, a 'red alert' was issued for the businesswoman. Isabel dos Santos has been living between London and Dubai, but on her trips to the UK, she has never been approached by the British authorities.
