Judges call for investigation and criminal proceedings against PRM and opportunists

Juízes pedem investigação e processos-crime contra PRM e oportunistas

The Mozambican Association of Judges (AMJ) is asking the Public Prosecutor's Office to investigate and prosecute criminally and impartially the Police of the Republic of Mozambique for causing deaths during the post-election protests.

According to the judges, the police did not hold back and resorted to excessive use of force "according to the videos that have been circulating", so the class "strongly regrets and condemns the death of defenceless citizens shot by PRM officers".

In addition, the magistrates are demanding criminal charges against citizens who, instead of demonstrating peacefully, vandalized public and private property and impeded the movement of people.

In the statement we have seen, AMJ calls on society in general to act in accordance with the democratic rule of law and with respect for the fundamental rights of the human person.
