Tropical Storm Jude left a trail of destruction affecting more than 100,000 families, with some people losing their lives, sustaining injuries and being displaced from their homes.
The government's preliminary figures show that 14 people died, 60 were injured and more than 100,000 were displaced in the provinces of Niassa, Cabo Delgado, Nampula, Zambézia, Tete and Manica, the spokesman said yesterday.
According to Inocêncio Impissa, the deaths were caused by the collapse of residential infrastructures, lightning strikes and drowning in Nampula and Niassa, where more than 20,000 houses were partially or totally destroyed.
He said that the Executive has already channeled support to the victims, some of whom are being housed in nine transitional centers for this purpose.
The health sector was affected by the storm, with 30 health facilities partially destroyed; more than 180 classrooms were destroyed in 59 schools; and around six access roads were affected in Nampula.
