Young people riot outside Venâncio Mondlane's residence calling for his candidacy for PR

Jovens amotinam-se defronte da residência de Venâncio Mondlane apelando sua candidatura à PR

A group of young supporters of Venâncio Mondlane rioted outside the foot of his residence in Maputo city this morning, calling on the Renamo MP to run as an independent candidate for the presidency of the Republic.

"This is the cry of the Mozambican people who are angry and who need Venâncio to lead. It's a cry for help so that he can't give up," said a citizen of the group of supporters. "This fight is not just for him, it's also for the Mozambican people."

The supporters began a march in the Plaza de Toros, and along the way, before reaching the residence of the former political advisor to the party president, the police tried to obstruct their progress.

In fact, as reported by Success TVThe Republic of Mozambique Police (PRM) wanted to negotiate with the young people. The idea was to bring down the raised signs and "drown out" the chants.

Faced with the situation, the MP left his home and joined his supporters. In an interview, he stressed that he had ruled out running for president as an independent.

"I still believe I'm going to the [Renamo] Congress because is a profile approved against the statutes and in violation of a decision taken by the previous congress" he said.
