A young man of around 25, who in life went by the name of Jaime Mandau, was killed early this evening by a commuter train, between Ferroviário and Dona Alice stations, in the city of Maputo.

The train departed from the central station of the Caminhos de Ferro de Moçambique (CFM) company at around 5.30pm in the direction of Marracuene.

The accident forced the train to stop for about an hour.

Witnesses at the scene assumed it was a suicide, as the young man had vowed to throw himself under the train.

The dead man's body was removed by a squad from the Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC).
