The former President of the Republic, Joaquim Chissano, is calling on society to remain calm and to believe in the words of Daniel Chapo, who says he is open to dialog with everyone, including Venâncio Mondlane, in order to put an end to the political and social crisis in which Mozambique is immersed..
Speaking on Saturday on the sidelines of an event marking the month of La Francophonie in Maputo, Joaquim Chissano believes that the political and social instability caused by the contestation of the results of the general elections on October 9 can be overcome with the ongoing dialogue, which so far has not included former presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane. However, in his opinion, the current President of the Republic must be given a vote of confidence.
"I've heard President Chapo say that he wants dialogue with everyone and it's progressing, but we're in a hurry, we want him to do it one way, we want to think instead of him and he's also said that he's following the debate on television and is taking note of it. So let's give credit to what he says he wants in order to move towards reconciliation," said Joaquim Chissano, quoted in a RFI.
For the former Mozambican statesman, reconciliation is a process. "I don't know how he's going to conduct it and I don't want to say out loud that it should be that way. I want to hear from him, when he has the opportunity, to give the necessary support, to give the necessary advice, if he thinks there are still better things to do. He has called for this, I want to hear from everyone, even those who do inclusion analysis. He wants to listen, that's good for me," added Chissano.
The former President of the Republic made these statements at the Franco-Mozambican Cultural Center in Maputo on the sidelines of a round table on the theme of "The Dynamics of Francophony in Mozambique: Politics, Economy and Culture", as part of Francophonie Month, which is being celebrated throughout March.
