Chestnut sales banned before official date

Interdita a venda da castanha antes da data oficial

It is forbidden to carry out any cashew nut sales operations before the official start date of the 2024-2025 marketing year.

The measure is part of a new regulation made public this week.

According to the Almond Institute of Mozambique (IAM), quoted in a publication by "Noticias", the establishment of rules and procedures to be observed during the marketing season is an important instrument for materializing the subsector's strategy to increase the quantity and improve the quality of the product sold.

At the first session of the Almond Committee, which took place on September 13, 2024, the reference purchase price for cashew nuts from the producer of 45.00 meticais per kilogram for the 2024-2025 marketing year was approved.

The IAM indicates that the reference price will be updated whenever there is a considerable fluctuation in the international market.

In this context, trade and industry associations should collaborate with local and community administrative authorities in publicizing and complying with marketing procedures.

According to the source, the prices to be charged by the interested parties at secondary level will be established according to the quality of the product and by mutual agreement between the parties involved, with the producer reference table as the basis for negotiation.

The regulation also states that marketing is carried out in the form of transactions by an actor duly registered with the IAM or by local administrative authorities delegated by the IAM.
