Cashew nut exports begin

Iniciam exportações da castanha de caju

Cashew nut exports are now officially open, following the approval of the reference prices for the 2024-2025 marketing year, which range from 1339.00 dollars per ton for the quality "out turn of 44 lbs" to 1613.00 for "out turn of 53lbs".

According to "Noticiais", which quotes the Almond Institute of Mozambique (IAM), the decision was taken a few days ago in Maputo, during the 2nd Session of the Almond Committee, led by the respective director-general, Ilídio Bande.

Cashew nut exports fell by 32.6% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2024, standing at 2.1 billion meticais, according to a report by the Bank of Mozambique (BdM), also quoted by the newspaper.

The drop is mainly due to unfavorable weather conditions, namely the occurrence of cyclones and heavy rains that affected the provinces of Gaza, Inhambane, Manica and Sofala during the months of December 2023 and March 2024.

Analysis of the data reveals a variable performance of cashew nut exports. In the first quarter of 2022, exports of this product reached approximately 2.5 billion meticais.

In the same period of 2023 there was an increase, to 3.4 billion meticais.

The main destinations for Mozambican chestnut exports are India, Vietnam, the United States of America, the Netherlands and China.

Remember that the reference price for the sale of raw chestnuts to producers this season is 45.00 meticais per kilogram, 10 more than last season.
