The National Statistics Institute (INE) has denied reports circulating on social media that the institution is recruiting staff to carry out this year's population census.

According to MISA Mozambique, which contacted INE, this information is accompanied by a link that supposedly gives access to the field/page for interested parties to register and submit their applications.

"Unfortunately, this is nothing more than disinformation aimed at deceiving citizens," said the National Director of Censuses and Surveys at INE, Alexandre Marrute.

Mozambique carries out a population census every ten years, and the last one took place in 2017. The next one is expected to take place in 2027.

At the moment, only preparatory activities for the census that will take place in two years' time are underway, and this phase does not include any kind of recruitment, MISA wrote.
