The National Meteorological Institute (INAM) is forecasting moderate to heavy rainfall in the central provinces of Sofala and Zambézia, starting this Friday (07). The phenomenon, according to INAM, is due to the influence of a persistent low-pressure system that is approaching the coastal strip of the central region of the country.
In a statement, INAM warns that heavy rain may occur temporarily, especially in the districts of Pebane, Maganja da Costa, Namacurra, Nicoadala, Inhassunge, Chinde, Luabo, Mopeia and the city of Quelimane in Zambezia province and in the districts of Marromeu, Caia, Inhaminga, Dondo and the city of Beira in Sofala province.
"On the other hand, the Intertropical Convergence Zone will continue to influence the weather in the north of the country, causing significant amounts of rain to fall, particularly in the northern provinces of Cabo Delgado and the coast of Nampula," reads the statement, recommending that precautionary and safety measures be taken in view of the risk associated with heavy rainfall.
INAM warned this Thursday (05) of the existence of another weather system in the southwestern Indian Ocean basin, Tropical Cyclone "VINCE", which does not constitute a danger to the Mozambique Channel.
