The National Institute of Meteorology (INAM) reports that the fourth low atmospheric pressure system has formed, southwest of the Indian Ocean, with strong potential to evolve to the stage of a moderate tropical storm in the coming hours.

According to a statement released this Sunday, by morning, the system was packing winds of about 50 kilometers per hour and gusting up to 75 kilometers, with a speed of 17 kilometers per hour, towards the east coast in northern Madagascar.

INAM's meteorologist, Manuel Francisco, told Radio Mozambique this Sunday that the system is not yet a threat to the country, as much as to Madagascar.

"At this moment he is not yet any danger to our country, he is also very far from Madagascar. We are monitoring, so that in the coming days, according to its evolution, if it can bring any danger or not to Mozambique," he said.

INAM appeals to the population to continue to monitor the weather information and warnings issued by the competent national authorities.

This is the fourth low pressure system to form in the Indian Ocean of the dozen or so predicted for the current rainy season.
