Ibo Island: Nyusi inaugurates new quay bridge budgeted at around 330 million Meticais.

Ilha do Ibo: Nyusi inaugura nova ponte cais orçada em cerca de 330 milhões de Meticais.

The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, inaugurated the new jetty on Ibo Island, costing around 330 million Meticais.

The figure includes the Búzi jetty, in the central province of Sofala, a region severely affected by Cyclone Idai.

According to AIM, the infrastructure is designed to boost the economy and tourism in the region of Cabo Delgado province, in northern Mozambique.

The project, which represents one of the milestones of the Idai and Kenneth Post-Cyclone Reconstruction Program (PREPOC), was financed by the World Bank and the Government of Mozambique.

The 60-meter-long infrastructure was rebuilt in a metal structure and clad in wood, including a concrete access bridge and a bridge plaza.

The new Ibo pier bridge favors mobility between the communities, facilitating the transport of people and goods, as well as boosting tourism and commerce in the area.

The work, which not only improves the connection between Ibo and other areas of Cabo Delgado, also gives hope of better days for the population.

The inauguration of the new quay bridge symbolizes the arrival of moments considered to be glorious for Cabo Delgado, at a time when the province, in addition to the terrorism that has plagued local populations since 2017, has faced cyclones that have destroyed social and economic infrastructure, such as bridges.
