The Chimoio Provincial Hospital, in Manica province, is proceeding with criminal proceedings against 14 employees of the institution for possible involvement in cases of corruption and embezzlement of medicines.
The suspects are accused of charging illegal fees to allegedly better serve patients during hospital care.
The situation of corruption in public services is worrying the local government, and on Tuesday the Secretary of State in Manica province demanded a tough stance against corrupt officials.
Cited by Radio MozambiqueLourenço Lindondé said that of the fourteen disciplinary proceedings, not a single case has been referred to the provincial Anti-Corruption Office and no official has yet been expelled.
