HCB exceeds annual production target

Last November, Hidroeléctrica de Cahora Bassa (HCB), one of Africa's largest independent power producers, achieved and exceeded its planned annual hydro-energy production by just over 11.5%. HCB produced 14,300 GWh compared to the 12,814 GWh planned for the month in question.

"Assuming that conditions remain unchanged throughout the chain, namely water availability, energy production, conversion and transportation equipment, as well as the performance of the company's human capital, production of 15,693 GWh could be achieved by December 31," said Boavida Muhambe, HCB's CEO, quoted in a statement sent to our newsroom.

Compared to 2021, this increase in production will represent around 4.7%. With regard to the Albufeira's water resources, on November 30, 2022, the level was 322.22 meters above mean sea level.

This corresponds to 81.5% of its useful storage capacity, thus allowing the normal operation of the project and the implementation of the production plant's operating plans and management based on minimizing the impacts of floods on the Lower Zambezi.
