The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Celso Correia, meets today, Thursday, with the National Sugar Subsector, in the district of Manhiça, Maputo Province, at the MARAGRA sugar mill.

According to the statement, the meeting will bring together representatives of the national sugar factories, associations of sugar producers in Mozambique in order to take stock of the 2020/2021 campaign and outline prospects for the 2021/2022 campaign.

Meanwhile, the government says it will continue to monitor the situation, which culminated this Wednesday in unrest following demonstrations by sugar mill workers in Xinavane, Maputo province, demanding improvements in wages and other labor rights.

The Vice-Minister of Labor and Social Security, Rolinho Farnela, met with the parties, this Wednesday, and called for dialogue.
