Graça Machel says she supports Daniel Chapo and points to the fight against corruption as a priority

Graça Machel diz que apoia Daniel Chapo e aponta combate à corrupção como prioridade

The widow of Mozambique's first president, Samora Machel, and a historic Frelimo party activist, Graça Machel, has released a video in which she presents her support for presidential candidate Daniel Chapo.

"Comrade Chapo, you are my candidate, you are the candidate of the entire Machel family, not only because you are the candidate of the Frelimo party, but above all because we identify with the way you renew the contract with the people," says Graça Machel in a video in which she presents her support for Frelimo presidential candidate Daniel Chapo.

Graça Machel said, in the same publication quoted by VOAHe also highlighted the fight against corruption as one of the priorities of the future President of the Republic, recalling that Chapo has been a leader in the fight against corruption. "That's leadership by example, we identify with the way you define yourself as a leader (...). We all have a responsibility to rebuild our country".

As the current president of the Foundation for Community Development (FDC), which works to combat poverty among poor women, Graça Machel believes that the government should create support mechanisms for development projects implemented by women.

Graça Machel, former Minister of Education and an influential voice in Mozambican society, has been an important voice within the Mozambique Liberation Front party, which has been in power since 1975.

The electoral campaign for the October 9 general elections kicked off on August 24 and is expected to last 45 days. This year's ballot has four candidates for the Presidency of the Republic and 37 political forces running for legislative and provincial seats.
