Government reveals "root cause" of fuel shortages at gas stations

Governo revela a “causa-maior” da escassez de combustíveis nos postos de abastecimento

The Minister for State Administration and the Civil Service, Inocêncio Impissa, said today that the causes of the poor fuel supply at service stations had to do with logistical and administrative nuances between distributors and commercial banks.

Speaking to the press, he explained that the situation is not due to there not being enough fuel to supply the country, not least because "the unloading of imports is being done irregularly".

"Therefore, the situation of shortages at filling stations is more related to logistical and administrative issues involving the distributors and their banks," he explained.

According to the Governor, in order to remedy the current situation, it is essential for distributors to issue guarantees to banks.

"These guarantees are necessary for distributors to be able to withdraw from warehouses and distribute them throughout the country's supply chain," he said.

In this sense, he noted that the existence of difficulties in releasing these guarantees means that distributors face challenges in accessing the products in their warehouses, "in effect resulting in a shortage of fuel at filling stations".

"Therefore, the issue is not the lack of fuel in the country, but the logistics involved in the process of moving the product from the customs warehouses to the filling stations," he said.

According to the government official, resolving the situation involves efficient management of bank guarantees by distributors and improved communication and coordination between the parties involved, namely distributors, banks and customs authorities.

"Resolving this logistical issue will allow for a smoother distribution of fuel, guaranteeing a continuous supply at gas stations and avoiding the shortages that consumers experience on a daily basis," he said.
