he Mozambican government and Team Europe launched two Team Europe initiatives: the "Ecological Pact" and "e-Youth", at an event held at the Franco-Mozambican Cultural Center.
Team Europe is made up of the European Union, Member States and their diplomatic network, their financial institutions and implementing bodies, the European Investment Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
The Team Europe approach strengthens cooperation, coordination, coherence and complementarity of actions with the aim of increasing impact and elevating Europe as a partner of reference.
The event was led by the Permanent Secretary for Youth and Employment, Ivete Alane; the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Land and Environment, Emília Fumo; and Team Europe. High-level representatives from the Government of Mozambique, the European Union and its Member States, among other cooperation partners, civil society and the private sector were present.
The "Ecological Pact for Mozambique" initiative aims to intervene in three areas: supporting the government to protect and restore the country's natural capital; improving socio-economic opportunities through access to resilient and sustainable infrastructure systems; promoting a favorable environment, helping to strengthen the capacities and instruments in public administration and society to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the ecological transition.
The "e-Youth" initiative aims to support Mozambican youth to reach their full potential to lead the socio-economic transformation of the country through a strategy based on the 3: Education, Employment and Empowerment.
All the ongoing programs planned by the European Union and the Member States in these two areas contribute to each of the Team Europe Initiatives, covering the whole country. Both initiatives have been validated through consultations with the government, cooperation partners and civil society.
The Permanent Secretary for Youth and Employment, Ivete Alane, says that she believes that this E-youth initiative will be a good space so that together, the European Union, the partners, the government and the youth movement can bring results for our young people. We want to believe that this initiative will take us a long way, together and in an articulated way."
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Land and Environment, Emilia Fumo, pointed out that: "Within the programs of the government's five-year plan we have very clear actions with regard to environmental strengthening.
This strengthening is demonstrated here today by this ecological and youth pact, which is yet another initiative by the cooperation partners. Mozambique's cooperation with the European Union and all its member countries in various areas is unquestionable.
And once again this cooperation has shown friendship between peoples, between countries, and in what is the global objective: We are once again united to strengthen our commitment, especially with regard to climate change and with regard to youth."
According to the German Chargé d'Affaires, Rüdiger Zettel: "With an ever-changing geopolitical landscape, we need joint responses and this is precisely what the European Team's approach aims to achieve."
He goes on to say that "we want to engage with our partner countries, such as Mozambique, in a strategic way and increase the coherence, complementarity and coordination of our collaboration - especially in the sectors with the greatest potential for transformation.
Through the Team Europe initiatives that will be launched today, we will join our efforts and broaden our commitment in the area of youth and in the area of environment and climate."
As European Union Ambassador Antonino Maggiore said: "In both the Youth and Green Transition sectors, the European Union will continue to be active in seeking more strategic partnerships with the government, the international community, educational centers, the private sector and civil society actors, confident that by joining forces we can achieve a greater and more lasting impact for current and future Mozambicans."
