Google acquires cybersecurity company for $5.4 MM

Google has announced yet another acquisition. It is the dynamic cybersecurity company Mandiant in a deal valued at $5.4 billion, with the tech giant looking to complement its cloud tools.

"Today, organizations face cybersecurity challenges that have accelerated in frequency, severity and diversity, creating a global security imperative," Google said in a statement, adding that to respond to these risks, companies "need to be able to detect and respond quickly to adversity."

The company believes that the cloud - where it will integrate Mandiant - represents "a new way to change the security paradigm by helping organizations respond to and protect themselves from the full range of cyber threats, while accelerating digital transformation.

With the acquisition, the tech giant hopes to complement the "strengths in security" of its Google Cloud, noting that the acquisition of Mandiant ensures real-time and in-depth preparation on these threats.

Google Cloud leader Thomas Kurian said, quoted in a statement, that businesses face "unprecedented cybersecurity challenges as the sophistication and severity of attacks that were previously targeted at governments are now targeted at businesses across industries."

Mandiant CEO Kevin Mandia, meanwhile, argued that "there has never been a more important time for cybersecurity."

The acquisition, announced at $23.00 per share, has yet to be approved by regulators and should be finalized before the end of this year.
