Mozambican international Geny Catamo became champion of Portugal "sitting on the sofa" this Sunday after Benfica's 2-0 defeat by Famalicão.
It's the Mozambican striker's first title in Portugal and Sporting Clube de Portugal's 24th.
Three years after their last title, Rúben Amorim's men secured their 24th championship by scoring an already unattainable 84 points - 8 more than the second-placed team - and could still reach 90 if they win their two remaining games, which would beat the current record of 86.
In his speech celebrating the title, the Green-White coach thanked the coaching staff for their selflessness in caring for the players. "They often get paid less than we do".
"They said we'd only win the championship every 18 years because we didn't have an audience. And they say we'll never be double champions again: let's see," he challenged, calm but euphoric, and threw the microphone down.
In total, the Lions have won 27 games, drawn three and lost two, with only one win in the 16 matches played at the José Alvalade Stadium.
