Gaza will have a new cashew nut factory valued at One million dollars

The government of Gaza province, in the south of the country, announced the construction of a new cashew nut processing plant in July, which is valued at one million dollars.

"The population is being mobilized to plant cashews in order to feed our industries, since we have a lot of potential in this crop," said Almeida Guilume, spokesman for the Provincial Executive Council, quoted today by the newspaper Notícias.

The cashew nut processing factory is to be set up at the Macuácua administrative post in the Mandlakazi district and, according to the Gaza executive, should increase production of the crop in the province.

According to the spokesman, the medium-sized plant is expected to create 64 fixed jobs and other seasonal jobs, as well as other social gains such as improving water supply conditions in nearby communities and installing solar panels.

The factory is also expected to initially exploit around 600 hectares of land to plant cashew trees, and may also use neighboring districts in Inhambane province to acquire raw materials.

By October 2022, Mozambique had exported around 150,000 tons of cashew nuts, according to figures released at the time by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.
