Some customers of the Água da Região Sul (AdRs) company, in the city of Xai-Xai, Gaza, rioted this Monday (03), in front of the premises of that institution, to protest against the bills charged for the provision of that service, considering them exorbitant.
According to the protesters, in addition to the high prices, in some neighborhoods the water hasn't come on for some time.
"I check the cubic meters of monthly consumption and make calculations, but when the bill arrives, the amount is as high as 2000 meticais, which is absurd. My household is made up of four people and we don't use so much water, because we're aware that it can affect the household economy," explained one of the customers, quoted by the newspaper News.
For AdRs in Xai.Xai, the current water tariff was set by the Water Regularization Council, an entity that, according to the source, studies the dynamics of life, payment capacity and the challenges that water supply services have in order to guarantee minimum sustainability and continuity.
However, the Water Regularization Council denies any responsibility and clarifies that it is AdRs that sets the tariffs and it is up to AdRs to approve them.
