The government, through the provincial directorate of Education in Gaza, southern Mozambique, has decided to suspend classes in seven schools in the Limpopo district, following the second wave of flooding.
According to Raquelija Jorge, spokeswoman for the provincial education directorate in Gaza, the situation has forced the transfer of more than 500 students to other educational institutions. The source explained that there are cases of students still not attending classes in the besieged areas.
"We have the Limpopo district with around seven schools, which are under siege due to the floods, making it difficult for children in the communities to get to school," said Raquelija Jorge, quoted by the newspaper "The Country".
The heavy rains isolated four communities, making it difficult for their residents, teachers and students to cross the border.
There are a total of 27 schools in areas under siege in Chicualacuala, Chibuto and Limpopo following the floods in Gaza.
