The Lake Oil company spilled around 90,000 liters of fuel after overflowing its tanks in the Port of Beira, and the incident was confirmed by the National Agency for Environmental Quality Control.
According to NewsThe incident occurred during the pumping of an oil tanker moored at one of the port's quays.
An investigation team has been set up to determine the causes of the incident and the environmental impact. But for now, there are indications of human error at the root of the incident.
The company responsible has not yet commented on the incident.
This was the second case of fuel spillage at the Port of Beira this year. The first occurred in January, when 18,000 liters of diesel spilled into the drainage ditch in Munhava-Matope. Human error was at the root of the incident.
