Mozambique has already collected 40 million US dollars in revenue from the exploitation of natural gas from the Rovuma Basin since exports began in November 2022.
The information was provided by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Max Tonela, during his hearing in the Planning and Budget Committee of Parliament, as part of the draft law creating the Sovereign Wealth Fund.
The government official said, quoted by Notícias, that the figures represent an increase in the taxation of profits from the exploitation of natural resources, bearing in mind that last year's profits amounted to just over 30 million dollars.
Just this week, the President of the National Hydrocarbons Company (ENH), Estevão Pale, revealed that the natural gas exploration project was operating in good conditions.
"We've already made 17 shipments of LNG and four of condensate. The project is progressing at a good pace and I think it's in line with what was planned," he said during an event to sign a memorandum of understanding between ENH and Millennium Bim aimed at supporting SMEs to take better advantage of the business opportunities that exist in the extractive area.
And it is on the basis of this scenario that the government expects the figure to reach 100 million dollars by the end of the year, according to Max Tonela.
