Since Mozambique became known as an independent republic, the President of the Republic has simultaneously held the position of president of a party, in this case Frelimo.

This seems to constitute disrespect for the Constitution of the Republic of Mozambique and was debated at the public auction.

The party concerned has already been made aware of the concern and, on Tuesday, spokeswoman Ludimila Maguni said that it was a matter that needed to be looked into.

"If there is something that is being put on the table, we can't neglect its analysis, and we could possibly go deeper into the issue," he told journalists after a session of the Central Committee, the party's headquarters.

According to Maguni, the analysis will require Frelimo to review the Constitution of the Republic and the party's statutes in order to choose the best decision.

However, the spokesperson noted that the debate on the incompatibility of the position of PR and party president is always resurrected in election periods.

"All of Frelimo's presidents have been presidents of the Republic to date, in these democratic processes.... however it is an analysis that can be deepened," he said.
