Frelimo forces state employees to contribute up to 30,000 meticais

Frelimo obriga funcionários do Estado a contribuir até 30 mil meticais

The Frelimo party is forcing state employees to make monetary contributions to supposedly cover the needs of electoral campaigns across the country.

The complaint comes from the Center for Public Integrity (CIP), through its Electoral Bulletin, which points to contributions of between 500 meticais and 30,000 meticais.

According to the document, the amount is determined according to the collection point, in this case districts, but also according to the employee's grade.

For example, in Maganja da Costa, in Zambezia province, teachers and head teachers must contribute a fixed 500 meticais.

In Manica's Tambara district, contributions range from 1,000 to 30,000 meticais. All officials in managerial positions are charged.

The table presented by the CIP states that: simple officials should pay 1,000 meticais; heads of secretariats, 3,000 meticais; school directors, 5,000 meticais; directors of district services, 12,000 meticais; and district administrators, 30,000 meticais.

In fact, "the amount is intended to pay the allowance for Frelimo party inspectors at polling stations."
