Frelimo urges authorities to improve mechanisms for finding solutions to kidnappings

Frelimo insta as autoridades para aperfeiçoar mecanismos de busca de soluções face aos raptos

Frelimo, Mozambique's ruling party, has reiterated, through its Political Commission, its deep concern about the kidnappings that are plaguing Mozambican cities, with a greater incidence in the country's capital, Maputo.

Speaking yesterday, Friday (02), in Maputo, after the 31st ordinary session of the Political Commission, a deliberative body in between sessions of the Central Committee, Frelimo spokeswoman Ludmila Maguni said that the party she represents encourages the competent authorities to continue perfecting mechanisms in the search for solutions to the kidnappings that affect the peace of families.

"The kidnappings, according to Maguni, jeopardize initiatives that contribute to Mozambique's socio-economic development," he added.

In fact, the Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA) recently announced that at least 150 businesspeople, most of them of Asian origin, have already left the country for fear of kidnapping since the first case was reported 12 years ago.

Kidnappings have a financial impact estimated at thousands of dollars.

Meanwhile, on the same occasion, the source revealed that Frelimo has decided to send central brigades to the country's ten provinces plus the city of Maputo to support the grassroots bodies in preparing the political formation's participation in the general elections scheduled for October 9, on a national scale.
