The president of the Mozambique Liberation Front (Frelimo), Filipe Nyusi, will run for his own succession for a third term at the head of the party in power since the country's independence, the Secretary-General, Roque Silva, announced today in Matola.
The information was given to journalists during the presentation of the stage of preparations for the XII Congress of the party that starts next Friday (23).
"I can say for sure that the candidate is Filipe Jacinto Nyusi and a dear member of the members of the sexagenarian Frelimo," Silva assured.
On the occasion, the secretary of the country's largest party assured that everything was in place for the event to run smoothly.
"We are sufficiently prepared for the final phase of this great celebration that is the holding of the congress itself," he said, explaining that the congress started in the party's cells and circles.
In line with the issues on the table, Roque Silva said that the event will serve to approve the party's guiding instruments for the next five years, such as the revision of the party's statutes.
"We are going to analyze and approve a new component that will allow us to value those who represent the historical heritage of Frelimo, for having been the great builders of the party," he said.
No less important, Frelimo will hold internal elections to choose a new Central Committee, which in turn will elect the Secretary General and his secretariat, and will also elect the new Verification Committee, according to Roque Silva.
