French carmaker Renault decided on Monday to resume normal activities in Russia. The plant's move goes in the opposite direction of other companies in the industry such as Volkswagen, BMW, Ford, Toyota, Mazda and Honda.
Macron's government is happy with the carmaker's decision.
About a month ago Renault had suspended vehicle production in Russia because of logistical problems caused by the Russian-Ukrainian war.
According to cnnportugal, the company's management met about 10 days ago to study various options, and decided, at least for the time being, to maintain its presence in Russia.
In the Russian capital, Moscow, Renault produces the Duster, Kaptur and Arkana models and the Nissan Terrano.
Since 2016, Renault has owned two-thirds, about 67%, of AvtoVAZ, Russia's largest automaker. Now, this means that it has more operations in Russia than most other European countries. The company has 40,000 employees in Russia alone.
AvtoVAZ sold almost 2,900 cars in 2021, which made Renault a pre-tax profit of 186 million euros.
