The Mozambican economy must continue to implement reforms for its own strengthening, according to the representative of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Mozambique, Alexis Mayer.
The current IMF priorities are diversification of the economy, investment in human capital and infrastructure as well as improving the quality and capacity of institutions, in addition to Liquefied Natural Gas, Mayer said at a meeting with Mozambican businessmen on Thursday in Maputo.
Among the reforms proposed by the IMF is the strengthening of macro-economic stability, macro-critical, structural and social measures such as public finance management, governance and social safety nets.
At the same meeting, the President of the Association of Commerce, Industry and Services (ACIS), Luís Magaço, highlighted the importance of the resumption of IMF support to Mozambique, considering it, along with others, a sign that can positively influence the recovery of the national economy.
"We have experienced the restitution of a peaceful climate in the central and northern regions, the easing of restrictive measures as part of the containment of the covid-19 pandemic, and the resumption of oil and gas projects in the north of the country," Magaço said.
The representative of Société Générale Moçambique bank, Tomás Chale, argued that the recovery of national macroeconomic stability requires continuous and integrated action in a holistic approach by the main key players in the country's development.
"All these pieces are fundamental so that, working together, we can transform Mozambique's enormous potential in various areas into a demonstrated reality in terms of economic growth and human development in the coming decades," he stressed.
