Filipe Nyusi calls for an end to sanctions against Zimbabwe

The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, says it is time to lift the sanctions imposed by the West on Zimbabwe so that the country can develop economically and create better living conditions for its people.

"We advocate rethinking it because we don't see any resistance from Zimbabwe to adhere to the changes that are demanded and some are already being met with some substance," Filipe Nyusi said, quoted by Domingo newspaper.

The Mozambican Head of State was speaking, in the city of Beira, at the press conference that marked the end of the visit to Mozambique of the Zimbabwean President, Emmerson Mnangagwa.

"Once again we reiterate Mozambique's support to resolve the issue of sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe," Filipe Nyusi said.

Nyusi, also added that it makes no sense that after two decades, this country continues to be discriminated against, not least because, in his words, Zimbabwe has already shown willingness to join the required changes. "We often think of solutions and measures to enable the economic liberation of this country to make its contribution in the development of Africa and the world," he stressed.
