The national veterinary authorities have just recommended restricting the movement of cattle in the Massingir district in order to contain the spread of foot-and-mouth disease..

The measure follows the discovery of an outbreak of this lethal disease in the Administrative Post of Zulo, where the authorities have already taken samples to identify the type of strains circulating for more assertive immunization.

According to official sources, quoted by NewsThe disease is currently confined to Zulo, but there is a high risk of it spreading to surrounding areas such as the districts of Chókwè, Mabalane and Magude, in Gaza province, southern Mozambique.
