Facebook abandons facial recognition technology

The social platform Facebook will stop using facial recognition technology and delete all the data it has accumulated since 2010 - the year the tech started - with the tool from millions of users.

The company's vice president of artificial intelligence, quoted in a statement, said that the company's position is one of the most important developments in the use of facial recognition technology.

"More than a third of daily Facebook users have enabled facial recognition and can be recognized," so more than a billion numerical facial recognition models should be eliminated, according to Jerome Pesenti.

This unexpected decision means that some popular network tools will stop working, for example, the algorithm will stop identifying the people present in a photo when someone posts it.

Facebook is currently dealing with several accusations associated with the release of internal documents by one of its former employees, alleging that the platform put thousands of lives at risk for the benefit of maganates.

Former employee, Frances Haugen, has assured in several instances and conferences that the social networking company puts its profits ahead of user safety.
