EUROPOL dismantles Islamic State terrorist base for recruitment

EUROPOL desmantela base de terroristas do Estado Islâmico para recrutamento

The European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (EUROPOL) has announced the dismantling of an infrastructure used by the Islamic State terrorist group in Spain.

EUROPOL called in agents from ten countries, with the support of the FBI, and dismantled the infrastructure that served as a media headquarters for propaganda, recruitment and the production of false identity documents for migrants, legalizing their stay in the country of final destination without the local authorities detecting that they were false.

The authorities arrested nine suspects as part of the operation that led to the seizure of servers in Germany, the Netherlands, France, Estonia, Romania and Iceland.

These computer servers were connected to various Islamic State media and other subsidiary organizations, including radio stations, news agencies and social networks with an international reach. These media outlets sent messages inciting terrorism in thirty languages, writes the Euro News.

According to Europol, this was the culmination of the year-long Operation HOPPER II. The agency has promised to continue working to dismantle internet resources for recruiting and spreading violent ideologies.
