US announces $600,000 support for acquisition of medical equipment in Mozambique

The Government of the United States of America (US) has provided a total of $600,000 for the purchase of medical equipment to support the response to covid-19 in Mozambiquean official statement said on Wednesday.

"These materials include oxygen monitoring equipment, personal protective equipment," noted the note from the US embassy in Maputo.

The equipment, delivered to the authorities on Monday, will be used in health units in Tete province and Maputo city.

"These medical supplies will ensure that doctors, nurses and other health care teams have more flexibility in treating patients severely affected by covid-19 and with specific needs, such as oxygen," said Martin McLaughlin, acting director of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), quoted in the document.

In addition to medical equipment, the amount made available will support the Ministry of Health in hiring additional medical personnel.

Data from the US embassy in Maputo indicate that the US has already provided almost 33 million dollars to reinforce the government's response to covid-19.
