Mozambican students don't know the meaning of September 7

Estudantes moçambicanos desconhecem significado de 7 Setembro

Mozambican students in Maputo City show total ignorance of the holiday that will be celebrated tomorrow. According to Radio Mozambique, these are students from different levels of education on which hangs an uncertainty about the events of September 7.

One of the interviewees reportedly said bluntly that she doesn't retain any historical dates in her memory. "I don't have much of that stuff about keeping commemorative dates in my head. I just live."

Another university student said that on that day in 1974 in Lusaka, Zambia, "an agreement was signed between Frelimo and Renamo. Another, said it was "Victory Day," but without knowing the reasons.

The history teacher at Francisco Manyanga Secondary School classified the situation as worrying and blames the excessive use of mobile devices and internet.

"On cell phones and computers kids just play games and watch videos, and they don't have time to watch and listen to useful things," said Filipe Mosquito.

However, there are some students with knowledge of Mozambican culture-general in mind. A sixteen year old student, who we assume is not yet in higher education, said, with certainty, that on September 7, 1974, the agreements between Mozambique and Portugal were signed in Lusaka, Zambia, which marked the end of the war between the two countries. This same answer was given by an eighth grade student at Francisco Manyanga Secondary School.
