The state plans to spend more than 800 million meticais to rehabilitate the roads destroyed by the waters of tropical cyclone "Jude", which hit the north and center of the country last week.
The information was provided by the Minister for Transport and Logistics, João Matlombe, who took a closer look at the damage to the bridge over the Monapo River that connects Namialo to Meconta.
"The level of damage is quite large, we now have an estimate of the preliminary survey of what is the investment needed to replace the roads, we are talking about around 800 million meticais, a figure that is quite significant and the value could rise due to the works," he said.
He explained that, as this is a complex job that could take more than three weeks to complete, the most urgent thing to do is to create alternative routes to ensure smooth traffic flow.
"Until the bridges are repaired, the most important thing is to create alternatives so that there is at least normal traffic and normal supplies to families are guaranteed," he said.
In areas where there is no connection, the government has allocated boats to transport people, provided by the Navy in Cabo Delgado.
"The boats arrived yesterday from Pemba. Each boat is carrying 10 people to prevent overflow and we are demanding that everyone put on a vest to prevent accidents and deaths," said Sahara Faquira, the administrator of the maritime division of Ilha de Moçambique.
