Life expectancy of Mozambicans has increased thanks to investments in health - Filipe Nyusi

Esperança de vida dos moçambicanos aumentou mercê de investimentos na saúde – Filipe Nyusi

The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, said on Tuesday that the life expectancy of the Mozambican population has increased thanks to the investments made in the health sector during his two terms in office.

"We've changed a lot. Infant mortality has fallen from 64 to 45 per thousand births... but now only 45 die in your province. Still, it's a lot. We're working to reduce it. Child and adolescent mortality has also fallen from 114 to 71 per thousand. These indicators are fundamental, but they are still high," he said.

The Head of State was speaking in the district of Sussendenga, in the province of Manica, during the inauguration of the Sussundenga District Hospital.

"With the handover of this hospital, we are realizing the conviction we have always held that guaranteeing health care means investing in human capital and improving the well-being of Mozambicans," he said.

With the hospital, Manica now has 150 health facilities, including a provincial hospital and six district hospitals. This inauguration is the second in two days, following the handover of the Matutuíne District Hospital in Maputo province.
