Eni is designing a second liquefied natural gas (LNG) platform in Mozambique's Rovuma basin to meet European demand as they try to limit energy dependence on Russia.
The project on the table from the Italian oil company would complement its Coral-Sul FLNG platform, anchored off the northern coast of Mozambique, which is expected to begin exporting the fuel this year.
"This is a great opportunity to develop [Mozambique's] resources and bring in significant revenues," said Guido Brusco, Eni's COO of natural resources, in an online interview with 'Bloomberg'.
"It is also a great opportunity for Europe to diversify its supplies. In that context, a project that could be delivered in less than four years has a huge window of opportunity," he added.
Before making a final decision on the investment, Eni needs to dialogue with its partners, ExxonMobil Corp, China National Petroleum Corp, and the Mozambican state-owned Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos.
