Eni Rovuma Basin yesterday laid the foundation stone for the rehabilitation and expansion of the Radiology and Intensive Care units at Pemba Provincial Hospital.
According to the statement sent to our newsroom, the project is part of the Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Ministry of Health (MISAU) in December 2022 to help strengthen the National Health Service.
The ceremony was attended by the Secretary of State for the Province, António Supeia and the General Manager of Eni Rovuma Basin, Marica Calabrese.
The works include the expansion of the Radiology Unit to allow for the installation of a new section for Computed Tomography (CT) scans, the construction of a new Intensive Care Unit fully equipped to international standards and with an additional capacity of 4 beds, the construction of a new pharmacy block and a waiting room.
The installation of the new radiology unit will give Cabo Delgado province greater autonomy to carry out medical examinations and diagnoses that were previously carried out outside the province, which created constraints for patients in serious condition.
The support for the Pemba hospital also includes training for nursing technicians and radiology services, with a view to giving them greater skills in using the new equipment.
The project will be implemented in partnership with AISPO, an NGO that specializes in implementing health projects in developing countries.
This partnership with the Mozambican health authorities reaffirms the commitment of Eni and its partners to continue promoting the well-being of communities in the countries where it operates, in order to help everyone have access to a healthy life, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
