Meeting between Chapo and Mondlane revives hopes of economic recovery

Encontro entre Chapo e Mondlane reactiva esperanças de recuperação económica

The recent meeting between the President of the Republic Daniel Chapo and former presidential candidate Venancio Mondlane in Maputo represents the opening of an ongoing dialog to promote economic recovery, according to the Italian ambassador to Mozambique, Gabriele Annis.

The diplomat said it was the first step "towards reconciliation and forgiveness, with the reunification of the Mozambican people around shared objectives linked to growth and development. This meeting creates a favorable climate for investment and a good business environment".
Quoted by the Mozambican Information Agency (AIM), Annis also pointed out that the meeting between the parties provides a window of hope that closes the political and social uncertainties in Mozambique.
"Obviously, business doesn't depend exclusively on meetings between political leaders, but in order to create a good environment for business you need stability in the country. Peace, an end to violence, that's the first thing," he said.
According to the ambassador, his country will support the implementation of the structural reforms in the state put forward by the President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, at his inauguration.
"We also need to carry out the reforms that President Chapo announced during his inauguration. We are here to support these reforms, which will certainly strengthen institutions and improve the business climate," he said.
