The climate of insecurity in Gaza province has led at least five businessmen to leave the Chókwè district, fearing kidnappings and murders.
"The death of the young businessman has left no one in a good position to continue with our desired businesses in this province. Fear hangs over us now... no one feels safe anymore, even if they are safe," said Caetano Valente, from the agribusiness department at the Confederation of Economic Associations - CTA, EM Gaza, quoted by STV.
It should be remembered that suspects in an alleged gang that recently kidnapped and murdered a Chinese businessman in the Guijá district of Gaza have been arrested in Gaza. Two of the detainees are members of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique and another appears to be a citizen who was serving a sentence at large. For the businessman's ransom, the group demanded a sum of two million meticais.
"We repudiate this type of action. We call on the law and order enforcers to [combat] situations of this nature, especially in a province where this has never happened before," he said.
The business community is warning of a decline in foreign investment in the province.
