Kidnapped businessman escapes captivity in Matola city

Businessman Muhammad Mayet, kidnapped on Wednesday last week in the city of Maputo, has escaped from his captivity in Matola, Maputo province. According to the authorities quoted by the newspaper "The Country" The businessman is in good health, but it is not known whether he is in or out of the country.

Muhammad Mayet, owner of Shelyns stationery shop, was kidnapped by six gunmen who intercepted him at the corner of Karl Marx and Ho Chi Minh Avenues, near the Ministry of the Interior and the Maputo City Police Command.

According to the same newspaper, "The Country", the businessman was then taken captive in the Malhampsene neighborhood, in the municipality of Matola. However, the victim escaped when agents from the National Investigation Service (SERNIC) and the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) surrounded the captivity and, at that moment, the kidnappers fled when they realized that the authorities were there.

After escaping from captivity, he joined his family, as confirmed by the PRM spokesman in Maputo City, Leonel Muchina.

"Well, with regard to the kidnapping that took place on Wednesday, we have to say that this victim is already with her family. And because it's a crime under investigation, we reserve the right not to say too much about it. But rest assured that this individual is with his family," said Muchina.
