The contractors in question built a three kilometer road valued, at about 60 million Meticais, (in the Municipality of Quelimane) and in less than a year the roads began to degrade.
According to O País, these are Lurdes de Mutola Street, which gives access to the UCM and the Janeiro neighborhood, 3040, which connects the N10 to the regional 642, passing through the Lusaca Accords neighborhood, and the last 4000, which gives access to Filipe Nyusi Secondary School, from Brandão Market.
Initially, about two kilometers of pavement were built, but later the municipality moved on to asphalt. The roads, which were asphalted, are in a state of relative consistency, but the rain that has fallen in recent days has laid bare the problem of the lack of quality of the work.
Townspeople with some knowledge of construction, as quoted by the newspaper, report that the contractors failed right at the construction of the soil base that receives the asphalt. Were all the criteria for contractor selection and supervision observed? question the residents.
For its part, the Quelimane City Council claims that there was poor quality of the works. According to Helder Subizo, director of roads in the municipality, the contractors concerned were notified last February for work to correct the defects.
Curiously, the inspectors were always in the field gauging the degree of execution of the works.
"We have already notified the contractor to hit the ground running, otherwise we will trigger the contractual clauses," said the roads director.
